IRIS: Iris is a genus of between 200?300 species of flowering plants with showy flowers. It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, referring to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species. A must have perennial, the iris tolerates wet, boggy areas and is very adaptable to a variety of soil types. One of the most easily grown Iris, originating from Northern Asia. Does well under all types of weather conditions. Best grown in a moist soil but will tolerate dryer conditions. They begin blooming after the Bearded Iris but before the Japanese Iris. Flowers are held on strong stems above the attractive, narrow, lance like leaves. Originally, only the deep violet blue was available, but now we are able to add many colors which have the same fine naturalizing habits as the original.
