Ritelite LPL792XLB 5-LED Computer and Book Light, Metal customer reviews: Great multi-purpose unit that provides great task lighting. I bought a Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light (Black, Kindle Version) a 2 years ago to use with my Kindle and had been disappointed with that light from the very beginning as the light it provided was very "blue" hued and did not provide enough brightness for me to read without eye strain at night. I finally broke down and bought Ritelite LPL792XLB 5-LED Computer and Book Light, Metal to replace it and I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner! When I was shopping for a new light last week, there were many that were less expensive. However, I noticed that this light works not only with a battery pack for use reading, but also detaches from that battery pack so you can plug it into your laptop or netbook via the USB port to get great directional task lighting. In fact, amazon sells the USB only version of this light: Ritelite LPL792 5-LED Computer Light, Metal for not much less. I think having the option to charge this light via AAA batteries and effectively go "wireless" with it is great. In terms of design, I can only find one drawback. The battery pack attachment has a slot where you can slide the cover of a book through it in order to hang the light for viewing. The light is really too heavy to do this effectively with a paperback book. This slot also means that there is no clip to use to attach the light to other surfaces such as desk or table ledges. The 5 on-board LED lights provide a great pool of light that is fully adjustable by the flexible arm of the unit. There are 2 settings though there isn't much difference between them. There are 5 blue dots that glow on the top of the unit that may bother some users. An easy fix for this is to just place a piece of tape over them so that their soft glow isn't shining up at you. Look elsewhere. Rubbish. I bought three, two for gifts. Firstly, there is only one mode: dim. The switch has three positions, but only two work: dim and off. You might as well leave it off because dim is not enough to read without eye strain. There is no " super bright" mode. My keychain led is brighter. To make matters worse, the clip on the battery pack that holds the light to your tomb is too weak to do it's job. Might be ok for a paperback but not for HC. I did not find the blue lights on the back irritating as some mentioned, but that may be a result of the dim only version I bought. sooooo frustrating!!!! First off, let me say...I love this reading light! Next, I must add...I hate this reading light (and I don't normally Hate anything). I loved it so much I bought 4 of them (2, and then later, 2 more). Though 2 of them are still working just fine, the other two have some sort of issue with the flexy thing...it looses connection at the slightest touch and therefore turns off Constantly. Ugh! Soooooooooo frustrating. It makes me so sad because everything else about it is perfect...the bright lighting, the fact that it has a USB connection, its weight and flexibility...but no, I will never buy this product again and would not recommend it. I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned this issue. One of the best purchases I've made Honestly, I didn't really know what to expect from this little light. I'd looked at a few elsewhere, but wasn't too impressed. Other than seeing a picture on line and reading the reviews, I didn't have much to go on. The price was right, so I bought it. I can't say enough how much I love this light. It's very cool and works like a charm. The LED light really makes it easy on the eyes when reading. I also like that I can plug it into my computer. It has a large, sturdy mounting apparatus to attach to the back of a book instead of clipping to pages and causing them to fold over. My only suggestion for improvement is the metal clip itself. It's quite rough on the edges. It's sharp enough to cut you if you are not careful and tears paper when sliding it on and off. You have to make a point to lift up the clip as much as possible to avoid tearing pages. Other than that, it's a great product and I highly recommend it. Problem solved. I needed a book light and a computer light. I found this item on Amazon, but the price was much less than the other options I was entertaining, so I was skeptical. I received this item today and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. Not only does it provide ample lighting for reading and typing on my laptop; it does it well. If you need a portable light, you might as well get one that kills two birds with one stone. I will follow up in a few weeks, but as of today (July 30th, 2010 )I am very happy with this purchase.
